The three things buyers ask first

Answered here, before you have to write an email.

1. Can you actually knit merino?

Yes — it is one of our main yarns, not a line we add on request. Eleven merino styles are in current production, in 100% merino and in 90% merino / 10% cashmere, across four collections: Cashmere & Wool, Jacquard, Diamond and Scarf Sets.

Gauge, composition, piece weight and indicative FOB price for each of them are in the table below, so you can judge the range before you ask.

2. What gauge can you knit merino in?

From 5GG chunky to 16GG fine gauge. In our current merino range that spans a 355 g 5GG sweater down to a 132 g 16GG sweater at size M.

Fine gauge and chunky are different machines, different yarn counts and different technicians. Most factories are set up for one end. We do not force both through one plant — work goes to whichever of our five factories is set up for that gauge band, and you buy the whole range from one supplier instead of two.

3. What is the minimum order?

200 pieces per colour on qualities where we hold a colour card — and most merino qualities in the table below carry a stock colour card, so 200 applies to them.

A colour dyed to your own Pantone reference runs at 1,000 pieces per colour, because the yarn has its own dyeing minimum before our knitting minimum even starts. If you are launching, start on a stock shade and move to custom dyeing once the style is proven.

Gauge, and what it decides

Gauge is the single number that sets the machine, the yarn count, the piece weight and much of the price.

Gauge What it looks like Merino in this band
1.5GG – 3GGVery heavy, hand-knit look; for statement outerwear piecesKnit in wool and alpaca blends
5GGChunky sweater; visible stitches, cable and textured work1 style, 355 g
7GGMid-chunky; the classic winter sweater weight4 styles, 140–613 g
12GGFine gauge; smooth surface, holds a clean jacquard4 styles, 190–250 g
14GG – 16GGVery fine; lightweight layering pieces, retail-quality finish2 styles, 132–136 g

Ranges are a guide to what the band is used for. The exact gauge, yarn count and piece weight for your style are fixed in the quotation, against your tech pack.

Prices are indicative FOB, per piece, before negotiation, and assume the minimum order quantity. FOB Shanghai or Qingdao; CIF on request. Yarn, colour, quantity and finish all move the number — treat it as a starting point for a conversation, not a quote. The full range of 162 styles is on the products page.

Yarn, finish and what gets checked

The sweater is only as good as the yarn decision and the finishing. Both are specified with you, in writing, before we quote.

Yarn specification

Your tech pack states composition and yarn count; we confirm the mill, the micron and the Nm count in the quotation, and a counter-sample is knitted from that yarn before bulk.

Stock shades come off a colour card. Custom shades are dyed to your Pantone reference — that is where the 1,000-piece minimum comes from.

Pilling, shrinkage, colourfastness

Test targets are agreed against your tech pack rather than quoted as a generic promise, and the pre-production sample you approve is what production is measured against.

Pre-shipment inspection happens at 80% packing, against that approved sample — by our own QC, not the factory's.

Certification

ISO 9001 for quality management, and GRS for recycled content where your yarn is recycled. Yarn and garment certification documents for the specific fibre you are using can be provided on request.

Certificate numbers are published on the About page; the certificate files are sent on request.

Who actually knits it

Production runs in five BSCI-audited knitting factories in eastern and northern China, with our own QC inspectors stationed inside them and our Nanjing team supervising on site.

Merino questions

Do you make merino wool sweaters?

Yes. Merino is one of our main yarns, in 100% merino and in merino–cashmere blends, knitted from 5GG chunky up to 16GG fine gauge. Eleven merino styles are in production and listed above with their gauge, piece weight and indicative FOB price.

What is the minimum order for merino sweaters?

200 pieces per colour where we hold a colour card — most merino qualities here do. A colour dyed to your Pantone reference runs at 1,000 pieces per colour, because the yarn has its own dyeing minimum before our knitting minimum starts.

What gauge do you knit merino in?

From 5GG chunky to 16GG fine gauge. As a guide, our merino styles run from a 355 g 5GG sweater to a 132 g 16GG sweater at size M. Different gauge bands run at different factories, which is how one supplier can cover 5GG through 16GG — and 1.5GG and 3GG for the heavier wool and alpaca blends.

How long does merino sampling and production take?

Sample development 7–14 days. Bulk production 45–60 days from order confirmation and sample approval, up to 75 days in peak season (August–October).
